Morocco to Cut Medicine Taxes in 2023, Improving Healthcare Access

In order to allow Moroccans to have access to health services, the government is considering reviewing the taxation on medicines and health products. Mechanisms are being developed to reduce the VAT on the import of these products, starting in 2023.
In a press release, the Ministry of Health specified that this decision, which will be announced as part of the 2023 finance bill, is in line with King Mohammed VI’s desire to place health and access to it for Moroccans at the center of national concerns.
The department also stresses that this measure, which has been studied by a large working team under the supervision of the ministry in charge of the budget, will lead to a reduction in the prices of imported medicines, health products, and medical equipment, thus helping to provide medicines to citizens at reasonable prices.
Provisions have been made to ensure appropriate and continuous supply of products and to prevent and mitigate any supply difficulties, the statement notes.
