Morocco’s Customs Revenue Set to Surpass 2021 Record, Exceeding Government Forecasts

The exceptional performance recorded by the Moroccan customs last year should continue. The customs administration is forecasting a sharp increase in revenue this year, even exceeding the 2021 record.
Customs revenue reached 111.2 billion dirhams in 2021, an increase of +10.1 billion dirhams compared to 2019, according to the activity report of the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII).
According to the new data contained in this report, this revenue will exceed that of the previous year and even the forecasts of the Finance Act, it is specified. In 2022, the Ministry of Finance was counting on 117.7 billion dirhams. "We will be well beyond that," the same source reassures.
This trend is made possible by several factors as in 2021. "There is an inflation factor that is intensifying in 2022 insofar as the majority of rights and taxes are calculated on the basis of product prices and freight costs. The increase in the two leads to an increase in revenue," the report specifies.
To this will be added the continuation of the catch-up of economic activity, which is reflected in the increase in imports, combined with a control effort, notes the ADII.
