Morocco’s Customs Revenue Hits Record 103.7 Billion Dirhams in 2019

The Moroccan Customs collected 103.7 billion dirhams (MMDH) in 2019 for revenue collection. It thus beats its own 2018 record of 100.8 MMDH.
The customs revenue collected during the 2019 fiscal year is estimated at 101.1 MMDH. While the recorded revenue reached 103.7 MMDH, exceeding the 2018 performance by 3%, according to the Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration (ADII). The figures contained in the ADII activity report confirm the upward trend in the kingdom’s customs revenue.
According to the activity report, this record performance for Customs is the result of a remarkable evolution of imports. The same source notes that the budgetary customs revenue collected recorded a 3.1% increase, i.e. 94.6 MMDH, to conclude with an increase in duties and taxes collected by the ADII, with the exception of the pipeline royalty. The report indicates in detail that the Value Added Tax (VAT) accounted for 58% of the total amount of budgetary revenue. It shows an increase of 3%, i.e. 56.1 MMDH. A performance explained by the near-stagnation of VAT revenue on energy products, offset by a 3% increase in VAT on other products, i.e. +1.5 MMDH, specified the ADII.
The good performance of all items such as manufactured tobacco (+5%), energy products (+6%) and other products (+11%) contributed to the 6% increase in the domestic consumption tax (TIC) compared to last year, notes customs.
Customs import duty revenues have shown a positive average progression of 4.7% over the last 5 years, despite the fluctuations recorded between 2017 and 2018, which stand at -5.2% and +10.8% respectively.
