Morocco’s Crown Prince Turns 16, Increasingly Visible in Royal Duties

The heir apparent Prince Moulay Hassan celebrates his 16th birthday this Tuesday, May 8th. Eldest son of King Mohammed VI and Princess Lalla Salma, Moulay Hassan often appears alongside his father during official activities, which the sovereign is keen to associate him with.
Last February, he did not go unnoticed during the visit of the Spanish sovereigns to Morocco. The prince was indeed present at all the events of the first day of the visit of Felipe VI and his wife Letizia, including during the signing of agreements between the two governments, Spanish and Moroccan. For the Spanish press, it is "an additional step in his training as a future monarch", we read in the Spanish press.
"The contrast between Moulay Hassan and the other European heirs under the age of 18, namely a trio of heiresses: Princess Leonor, Amalia of the Netherlands and Elisabeth of Belgium, is striking. All lead a life away from official programs," it was reported.
The birth of the young prince on May 8, 2003 had been joyfully celebrated throughout the country. The heir apparent was named Hassan in tribute to his grandfather, the late King Hassan II.
Moulay Hassan has a sister, Lalla Khadija, born on February 28, 2007 in Rabat. The two children of King Mohammed VI continue their studies at the Royal College of Rabat, founded in 1942 by the late Mohammed V.
