Morocco Cracks Down on Taxi Drivers Refusing Short Trips with Hefty Fines

In Morocco, fines will now be imposed on taxi drivers who refuse to transport customers to their chosen destinations. Other measures are also planned.

After examining the repeated complaints of passengers regarding the refusal of certain drivers to transport them to short-distance destinations, the Moroccan authorities have taken some measures. These drivers will have to pay fines of several hundred dirhams. Another sanction: the confiscation of their vehicles for at least 15 days. This decision, which will come into effect on August 20, is part of efforts to improve the services of the public transport sector and reduce the abuses that negatively affect the quality of service offered to citizens. There are mechanisms to monitor and follow up on the commitment of drivers to these measures, including the rapid and effective receipt and processing of complaints.

By taking these measures, the authorities are working to strengthen discipline and compliance with the laws and regulations governing the taxi sector, in order to ensure the provision of public transport services that effectively and safely meet the needs of citizens. These measures will not only contribute to the reduction of negative practices of certain drivers and the improvement of the relationship between taxi drivers and customers, but they also aim to strike a balance between the rights of drivers and those of passengers, by emphasizing the improvement of the quality of service offered and customer satisfaction.
