Morocco Cracks Down on Tax Evasion by Doctors and Engineers

The Directorate General of Taxes (DGI) is tracking down fraudulent doctors and engineers. They have been subjected to tax audits, after the tax administration noted significant discrepancies between the declared income and the high expenses incurred, particularly during vacations abroad.
These doctors and engineers are suspected of tax fraud. With evidence in hand, the DGI has shown that they have made false declarations to the tax administration on their income and expenses incurred during vacations abroad.
According to Hespress, the tax inspectors verified the transactions made by a doctor with his Moroccan bank card, and found that he had spent a total of 270,000 dirhams on hotel bookings and purchases of clothing, jewelry and luxury watches during a vacation with his wife and daughter in Europe.
The tax inspectors also noted significant discrepancies between the income and the extravagant expenses of two engineers for dream vacations in Greece, Italy, Monaco, Ibiza in Spain and other countries. These false tax declarations were discovered with the assistance of the competent services of the Foreign Exchange Office and the Directorate General of Customs and Indirect Taxes.
Also, the tax inspectors have put in place new procedures to track down the fraudsters. They follow and analyze the information disseminated by people practicing liberal professions on social networks, and then proceed to verify their tax returns.
