Morocco Cracks Down on Illegal Construction Networks Linked to Local Officials

Governors recently appointed have dismantled networks of anarchic and illegal construction involving authority auxiliaries. They would have amassed large fortunes by escaping the control of the territorial administration, with the blessing of the "Internal Affairs Services".

According to Le360, the Mokaddems would have taken advantage of their prerogatives of conducting field investigations to engage in suspicious activities that have earned them illegal income.

These activities would be related to the proliferation of anarchic constructions on the territories under their authority. These are clandestine factories for the manufacture of plastic bags prohibited by law.

The site mentions warehouses that have proliferated in agricultural areas, as is the case in the locality of "Atmana" under the prefecture of Mohammedia.

This has caused the discontent of the farmers in the region, who have denounced the multiplication of illegal construction sites, day and night. They accuse, according to the site, the authority auxiliaries of taking revenge on them by refusing to carry out services such as the transmission of official correspondence and the distribution of RAMED cards.

Thus, for example, the authority auxiliary in the district of Sidi Moussa Ben Ali, like many of his colleagues, would own farms, warehouses and 4x4 vehicles.

As a direct consequence, crime has increased and disorder has affected all sectors, up to the appropriation of more than half of Provincial Road No. 3326. Worse, the offenders have built reed belts around the illegal homes and warehouses bordering the Provincial Road.

The idea is to thwart the controls. And the situation serves as an excuse for the criminal gangs operating in the region. The calls for help from the population do not seem to receive a favorable response from the authorities.
