Morocco Cracks Down on Cross-Border Smuggling to Protect Women’s Dignity

The time of smuggling at Bab Sebta seems to be over. The Minister of the Interior, Abdelouafi Laftit, has decided to put an end to the phenomenon of "mule women", which seriously tarnishes the image of the Moroccan woman.
During a meeting on Tuesday with the Commission in charge of promoting the representation of women, Laftit was categorical. For the minister, preserving the dignity of women goes through the eradication of this phenomenon, which seriously damages the image of Moroccan women.
Pressed to put an end to this trafficking, which has heavy economic and social consequences, the minister stressed that Morocco will do everything to find alternatives for those affected by the closure of the Ceuta crossing point.
For Laftit, King Mohammed VI attaches particular importance to the participation of women in political and electoral life. A concern that has resulted, according to him, in a better positioning on the political scene and a strong presence in electoral lists.
