Morocco’s COVID-19 Treatment Costs: State Spends Up to 18,000 Dirhams Per Patient

A patient with the new coronavirus (Covid-19) costs the Moroccan state between 15,000 and 18,000 dirhams for their hospital stay and treatment (10 days). Home hospitalization costs 3,900 dirhams, while preventive care costs 900 dirhams.
It is Professor Jaâfar Heikel, a specialist in infectious diseases and public health, who provides these figures, while affirming that the figures of the Moroccan Ministry of Health on coronavirus infections are "real and objective". Figures "that show the competence of the Moroccan government and the Ministry of Health," praises the specialist. The rate of confirmed infections does not exceed 3% out of 20,000 tests per day.
According to Jaâfar Heikel, the mortality rate in Morocco is currently around 1.8%, "because some people are slow to be taken care of (up to seven days) after the onset of symptoms, and therefore it is difficult to treat them". This is much better than in countries like Belgium, Spain, Italy, the United Kingdom and France. This reflects a good care rate.
Morocco, says the Professor, is one of the first countries to have chosen a health protocol that adopts a chloroquine treatment, at 95%, compared to 83% in Italy, 75% in Spain, 51% in China, 50% in France and 49% in the United States. The professor stressed the importance of "prevention by citizens because the State alone cannot care for all patients".
