Morocco’s Covid-19 Fund Collects $3.4 Billion, Spends $1.5 Billion on Pandemic Response

The General Treasury of the Kingdom (TGR) announced the amount of 33 billion dirhams (MMDH) collected by the end of May, for the account of the "Special Fund for the Management of Covid-19" instituted by HM King Mohammed VI.
This announcement from the TGR is found in its monthly bulletin of public finance statistics for the month of May. According to the institution, "At the end of May 2020, the special allocation account entitled "Special Fund for the Management of the Covid-19 Pandemic" recorded receipts of 33 MMDH and expenditures of 14.9 MMDH".
The origin of the creation of this special fund is on the initiative of King Mohammed VI. Its objective is to cover the costs of upgrading the medical system and support the national economy to cope with the shocks induced by this health crisis that has spared no sector. It is also a matter of preserving jobs and mitigating the social repercussions resulting from the effects of Covid-19.
