Morocco’s COVID-19 Cases Remain Low Despite Omicron Concerns, Officials Credit Preventive Measures

Despite the appearance of an Omicron case in Morocco, the national epidemiological situation remains stable. This, thanks to the measures taken by the government.
Although several countries in contact with the kingdom are experiencing a surge in Covid-19 or its variant infections, Morocco still has low numbers of infected cases.
This trend is attributable to the measures taken by the authorities, said Dr. Moulay Said Afif, member of the National Technical and Scientific Advisory Vaccination Committee, explaining that the measures taken by the State to prevent the spread of the virus have been effective.
Nevertheless, he stressed, the committee has recorded new Covid-19 cases, bringing the current number of patients to more than 200, hence the need for all unvaccinated people to get vaccinated, and for those who have not yet done so to get their third dose.
Regarding the sole Omicron case detected in Morocco, the expert said that it is in a "stable condition", and is under medical supervision in accordance with the current health measures.
To deal with this new variant, Dr. Afif emphasizes the importance of respecting barrier measures, in particular social distancing, proper wearing of masks and frequent hand washing. He also stressed the importance of accelerating the vaccination campaign.
