A 0.3% increase in the consumer price index (CPI) was recorded in September 2020, according to the High Commission for Planning (HCP).

This increase is justified by a 0.5% increase in the index of food products and a 0.3% increase in the index of non-food products, according to an information note on the CPI of the HCP for September 2020.

During the period of August and September 2020, food prices saw a sharp increase for "Vegetables" (3.7%), "Fruits" (2.1%), "Milk, cheese and eggs" (0.8%). As for "Meats", "Coffee, tea and cocoa", they stood at 0.1%. As for Sea fish and seafood, they experienced a decline of 4.7% against 0.2% for "Oils and fats" and 1.0% for "fuel" prices.

At the city level, Safi and Settat experienced a 1.4% increase in the consumer price index (CPI) compared to 0.9% in Kénitra, Guelmim and Beni-Mellal. Fez and Marrakech show 0.6% against 0.5% in Meknes and Errachidia and 0.4% for Agadir. On the other hand, declines were recorded in Al-Hoceima with 0.7% and in Tetouan with 0.5%.

In addition, non-food products experienced a 1.1% decline in "leisure and culture" to a 1.5% increase in "Education". Also, the HCP states that the underlying inflation indicator, which excludes volatile price products and public tariff products, would have experienced a 0.1% decline compared to August 2020 and a 0.2% increase compared to September 2019.
