Morocco’s Consumer Price Index Rises 1.2% in September, Led by Non-Food Inflation

The Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 1.2% in Morocco in September, after stagnating in August.
This inflation is attributable to the increase in the index of non-food products by 1.9% and the decrease in that of food products by 0.3%, said the High Commission for Planning (HCP), noting that the underlying inflation indicator would have experienced a rise of 0.5% month-on-month and 2.2% year-on-year in September 2021.
During the period, the largest increases in the CPI were recorded in Fès and Settat (1.5%), Beni Mellal (1.4%), Kenitra (1.1%), Guelmim (1.0%), Oujda (0.8%), Casablanca, Rabat, Laâyoune and Safi (0.7%) and Errachidia (0.6%), the note states.
On the other hand, decreases were noted in Al Hoceima (1.1%) and Marrakech (0.1%).
Analyzing the evolution of the index over the year, the HCP notes that the variations for non-food products range from a decrease of 0.4% in "Communications" to an increase of 5.8% for "Transport".
