Morocco’s Consumer Price Index Dips 0.1% in January, Food Prices Down 0.4%

The food products index fell slightly by 0.4% between December 2019 and January 2020.
The latest bulletin from the High Commission for Planning (HCP) noted that the consumer price index for January 2020 fell by 0.1% compared to the previous month.
This trend is the result of a decline, observed between December 2019 and January 2020, in the food products index, which fell by 0.4%. This concerns in particular the price of "vegetables", down 2.9%, "fish and seafood" which fell by 1.5%, "milk, cheese and eggs" down 0.6% and "meat" which saw a decline of 0.3%.
As for the index of non-food products, the HCP reports an overall increase of 0.2%, with in particular the prices of "fuels" set at 2.0% and "insurance" at 4.2%.
In addition, a stagnation was noted in January at the level of the underlying inflation indicator, which excludes volatile price products and public tariff products, compared to the month of December 2019 and an increase of 0.5% compared to the month of January 2020.
