Morocco’s Construction Boom: Cement Sales Surge 19.3% as Real Estate Market Rebounds

The construction sector in Morocco seems to be regaining good momentum. Cement sales, the main barometer of the sector, increased by 19.3% during the first eight months of this year compared to 16.6% last year.
In August 2021 alone, cement consumption increased by 31% compared to the same month last year. This is explained by the multiplication of construction sites, prefabrications and the high number of housing unit productions.
In a context of a 9.2% decrease in loans granted to real estate development, the outstanding real estate loans strengthened by 3.7% at the end of July 2021.
In total, the additional loans amounted to more than 4 billion DH during the same period, compared to 1.7 billion DH during the same period of the previous year.
