Morocco Considers Windfall Tax on Oil Distributors’ Profits

On the recommendation of the Competition Council, the government is considering including in the 2023 finance bill the introduction of an exceptional tax on the super-profits of oil distributors.
"The government will examine this recommendation which is in line with the government’s ideas on supporting the purchasing power of citizens," said Mustapha Baitas, stressing that "even before this recommendation, the Minister Delegate to the Budget, Fouzi Lekjaa, had declared before the parliamentary commission on the economy and finance that the government was studying ways to introduce a tax on super-profits."
Before the Competition Council, the implementation of this tax on the super-profits of oil distributors had been demanded by opposition deputies.
