Morocco Considers Mandating Seat Belts in Taxis to Reduce Accidents

In Morocco, the Democratic Transport Union is calling for strict compliance with the Highway Code, particularly the wearing of seat belts in taxis, as in private vehicles, in order to preserve the lives of drivers and passengers.
Faced with the increase in accident cases, the union has asked the competent authorities to ensure the rigorous application of the Highway Code, and in particular the wearing of seat belts in taxis, in order to protect the lives of drivers and passengers.
In a press release, the union expressed its outrage at the laxity observed in this area, noting that neither taxi drivers in Morocco nor their passengers comply with this requirement. It has called on the competent authorities to be more firm in order to put an end to this anarchy that endangers the lives of road users.
The Democratic Transport Union has called on the authorities concerned to take their responsibilities, urging them to impose financial penalties on offenders and to carry out surprise checks on the road network to ensure compliance with the Highway Code and reduce fatal road accidents.
