Morocco Considers Lifting Ban on Foreign Goalkeeper Recruitment in Football

The Executive Committee of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has asked a technical commission to study the conditions under which Morocco could resume the recruitment of foreign players, especially goalkeepers.
As of next season, Moroccan football clubs could be authorized to recruit foreign goalkeepers if they wish. This possibility had been suspended more than 20 years ago, recalls the daily Assabah.
At the time, a report by Nasser Larguet, former national technical director, had highlighted several negative points on the subject. He had indicated that given the importance of the role of a goalkeeper in the team and for fear that the national teams would not find good goalkeepers, it was not wise to allow clubs to hire foreigners for this position.
Today, with hindsight, the FRMF and its president Fouzi Lekjaa are seriously considering making it easier for Botola clubs, especially since the demand has often been expressed by many clubs who explain their difficulties in finding a good goalkeeper locally. Assabah explains that the probability that the FRMF will accept the return of foreign goalkeepers is high, but it should nevertheless set certain conditions.
