Morocco Considers Legalizing Medical Cannabis, Following Israel’s Lead

Since the early 2000s, Israel has authorized the medical use of cannabis and even its export, in 2019. Seeing all the potential it has, Morocco would benefit from following its example.
The medical use of cannabis has become a major pharmaceutical and agricultural asset in Israel. Added to the authorization of its export, there is enough to inspire the kingdom, suggests TelQuel which launches an exhortation call to Morocco, while a draft law on the legal use of cannabis is on the table of the council of government. With around 50,000 hectares of cannabis cultivation and ancestral know-how, Morocco has the possibility of making it a sector, thanks to the therapeutic cannabis industry.
This proposal, which has been under discussion for years and would bring in around 100 billion dirhams to the country according to the Prohibition Partners institute, has taken a concrete phase since Morocco voted in December 2020, a United Nations resolution recommending the removal of cannabis from the list of toxic substances. Cannabis cultivation currently supports between 90,000 and 140,000 families in Morocco, and employs nearly 800,000 people.
It is therefore appropriate that Morocco be inspired by the Israeli case to adapt it to its own historical, modern context. This is the right time, given that the global market is evolving, recommends the same source.
