Morocco Considers Easing COVID-19 Restrictions After Eid El Fitr

After Eid El Fitr, Morocco could begin to loosen the health restrictions. With the improvement in the epidemiological situation and the good progress of the vaccination campaign observed in recent weeks, the country can slowly start to ease the security measures.

Morocco is now able to gradually and securely ease the territorial security measures after Eid El Fitr to promote the return to social life, economic and commercial recovery, but in compliance with barrier gestures, pending the achievement of collective immunity, said the doctor and researcher in politics and health system, Tayeb Hamid, analyzing the country’s epidemiological situation. But the decision to take such a step will depend on five factors: the current situation, potential risks, the resilience of the health system, the behavior of the population and the country’s ability to withstand a sustained epidemiological risk.

Currently, the indicators are green with 500 Covid-19 cases recorded per day in the country, i.e. a daily incidence rate of 1 per 100,000 inhabitants, not to mention that the number of deaths has dropped considerably and about 6 million people have already received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and 4.5 million the second dose.

Although "today, scientific data confirms the possibility of completely breaking the curve of the epidemic, instead of flattening it, by avoiding enclosed spaces and favoring outdoor activities," factors such as the appearance of the British and Indian variants in Morocco sow doubt. But the real danger comes from those who do not respect the collective and individual health measures, the specialist observed.

Thus, it is important to adopt responsible behaviors to avoid the catastrophe as in certain countries, avoid gatherings in closed places as much as possible, disinfect hands, respect social distancing and always wear a protective mask. By doing so, the easing of security measures can become a reality, without however degrading the epidemiological situation in Morocco.
