Morocco Resumes Compulsory Military Service, Offering Diverse Training for Youth

Young people who will be selected for compulsory military service in 2022 will receive training in various fields, and will be prepared to face the challenges related to the development of society.
This is what Mohamed Errerhaoui, head of division at the Ministry of the Interior, said on Monday, during the launch of the census operation for the next wave of young people wishing to do their military service, reports the MAP.
Interrupted due to the coronavirus pandemic, the organization of this civic duty has a particular character and the official has provided details of the next edition. During the first four months of military service which will last a year, the selected young people will receive a common basic training as well as military training, Errerhaoui said.
Then, for eight months, the conscripts will receive vocational training in the disciplines and specialties available in the training centers of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), he continued, noting that this training will be provided by military civilian trainers for the benefit of young people in order to deepen their knowledge.
Thus, these "new type" citizens will develop the values of citizenship, the taste for effort, the sense of discipline, the respect for the symbols and institutions of the State and will instill in them the predisposition to defend the homeland and its territorial integrity.
Regarding their allowance, the official said that the monthly pay granted to conscripts during the duration of military service will vary depending on the rank assigned to each conscript. Young people with a level of education below the baccalaureate will receive a salary of 1,050 DH, compared to 1,500 DH for non-commissioned officers with the baccalaureate and 2,100 DH for officers with a university degree equivalent to a bachelor’s degree.
In addition, Mouhcine Elblaoui, also head of division at the Ministry of the Interior, recalled the eligibility conditions for military service this year. The census operation concerns young people aged between 19 and 25 on the date of May 16, 2022. Regardless of social background, level of education or geographical distribution of eligible persons, he added that it will end on February 10, 2022.
