Morocco's Cold Wave Response: Over 750,000 People Receive Aid in National Plan

The Delegate Minister to the Minister of the Interior, Noureddine Boutayeb presented to the House of Councillors the status of actions carried out as part of the implementation of the National Plan against the cold wave of the 2020-2021 winter season.

In total, 147,000 families (755,000 people) from 1,776 villages in 235 local authorities in 27 provinces are affected by this national plan, the minister told the House of Councillors.

According to him, actions have been launched since October. In this context, 6,237 pregnant women were identified, of whom 1,397 received care in maternity hospitals and health centers. Similarly, 4,109 homeless people were assisted and thick blankets were distributed in remote areas to 18,352 people.

Noureddine Boutayeb added that 6,797 blankets were distributed and medical services were provided to 3,330 people with the help of 1,119 mobile health units and 151 medical caravans. Also, 415 road sections, including 77 national, 94 regional, 180 provincial and 64 other unclassified roads, have been put into service.

In addition, the minister indicated that more than 40 douars were unblocked, snow barriers were installed and preventive school closures were implemented in 3,050 educational institutions.

As part of monitoring the spread of the coronavirus, various actions have also been undertaken. These include the collection of wastewater samples in Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangier and Fez.
