Morocco Coach to Shake Up Squad for World Cup Qualifiers

Walid Regragui, coach of the Moroccan national team, is preparing to unveil the list of Atlas Lions selected for the matches against Niger and Tanzania, scheduled for next March, as part of the fifth and sixth rounds of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Mexico and Canada. He should plan for many changes.
The Moroccan national team will face Niger and Tanzania on March 17 and 24, 2025, as part of the fifth and sixth rounds of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. But the list of players selected should see many changes, between players on the rise and others in decline.
The rising players are the Moroccan national team’s forwards who are performing very well. One of them is Hamza Igamane. He shines with his club, the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland, both nationally and continentally, contributing to several goals. His compatriot Youssef En-Nesyri, striker of the Turkish club Fenerbahçe SK, is in great form. Soufiane Rahimi continues to shine with Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates. Oussama Idrissi, striker of Pachuca (Mexico), as well as Sahraoui and Bouaddi, players of Lille (France), are also achieving exploits.
On the other hand, the Moroccan national team’s defense is in poor shape due to the decline of certain players, the lack of preparation of others, and repeated injuries. Seriously injured in the cruciate ligaments with his club, Crystal Palace in England, Chadi Riad, will not participate in the next international break of the Atlas Lions. Walid Regragui now has to find a replacement capable of strengthening the defensive axis, which suffers from a lack of stability in the absence of a player who can support Nayef Aguerd. Although he has been testing several players since the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, he has not been able to settle on a final choice. However, he could bet on the new players he plans to integrate into the Moroccan team in the coming weeks.
