Former Morocco Coach Defends Regragui Amid Mounting Criticism

Moroccan coach Badou Zaki disapproves of the scathing criticism leveled in recent weeks against the Moroccan national team coach, Walid Regragui.
The Atlas Lions coach is facing criticism from Moroccan supporters, after the disappointing elimination in the round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire and the mixed performances of the Moroccan team in friendly matches against Angola (1-0) and Mauritania (0-0).
Badou Zaki, coach of the Niger national team, expressed his surprise at this "fierce and enraged campaign" against Regragui on social media, wondering if Moroccan internet users are talking about the same national coach who "spread joy and happiness" during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
"Unfortunately, Moroccan supporters have a short memory," lamented Zaki, who disapproves of the attacks on Walid Regragui, urging supporters instead to engage in constructive and objective criticism. Regragui will overcome this difficult period, as he has a "strong" personality and the support of his players and the federation, the former Moroccan national team coach assured.
Badou Zaki has a goal: to qualify the Niger team for the 2025 CAN scheduled in Morocco. The Moroccan coach is also preparing for the match that will pit his team against the Atlas Lions as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
