Morocco Coach Halilhodzic: National Team Still Developing Despite Recent Victories

The coach of the Atlas Lions spoke, without mincing his words, about the criticisms that Moroccan players have been facing for a few months. Vahid Halilhodzic affirms that the national team he is leading still has a lot of work to do to become one day one of the great African teams.
The Moroccan public has not been kind to the national team in recent months. Despite the coronavirus and the particular conditions that Morocco is going through, the Atlas Lions have brought back beautiful victories and have been very successful in recent official outings counting for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. This is why Vahid Halilhodzic, in an interview with the television channel Arriyadia, is surprised by the incessant criticisms.
For him, his protégés have given enough reasons for people to grant them a margin of pride. As an example, the coach recalls that Morocco is the first nation to have qualified for the next Africa Cup of Nations.
The national coach also specified that Moroccans are mistaken in thinking that Morocco is a great team at the continental and global level. For him, the national team is in a transitional period and comparisons only undermine the morale of the players. He explained that the criticisms that some heap on the Lions are due to several difficulties and errors in the game plan proposed by the players during the last matches. There is also the end of the career of several key players and the arrival of new players who need time to familiarize themselves with the team’s strategy.
However, Vahid Halilhodzic expressed his disappointment with the behavior of several players during the gatherings. But the main thing is to be able to maintain a good working atmosphere for the cohesion of the group and the success of the challenges to come.
