Morocco Coach Halilhodzic Defends Record Amid World Cup Controversy

Under fire from critics for several weeks, the national coach of the Atlas Lions, Vahid Halilhodzic, reacted to several subjects, including qualification for the 2022 World Cup, speculation about his departure, the remarks of Fouzi Lekjaâ and the thorny case of Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui.
In an interview with the Croatian media Sportske Novosti, the Franco-Bosnian technician discussed the decisive meeting that will take place with Fouzi Lekjaâ concerning his future, expressing confidence and highlighting his sporting record. "Do you know where I come from? From Jablanica! And it is especially known for - granite! So I was built in Jablanica granite," he said. "The results speak for me, they are winning. I have nothing else to say," he added. A way of saying that a dismissal does not scare him at all.
Forced to put the subject back on the table, Vahid insisted that he did not want to talk about Hakim Ziyech while the FRMF is trying to reconcile the two parties. The former Nantes player signs and persists. He mainly wants to focus on his current group that has achieved good performances.
Regarding participation in the World Cup, the technician intends to prepare his group, in particular by playing friendly matches. "Croatia is the world vice-champion and Belgium third in Russia. Canada, for its part, finished first in its qualifying group. I won’t be wise if I say that anything is possible at the World Cup... We’ll try to create a surprise!" he stressed.
To recall, Morocco is in group F with Belgium, Croatia and Canada. It will face Croatia, the reigning world vice-champion (Russia-2018), in its first match, before facing Belgium and then Canada.
