Morocco Coach Faces Selection Dilemma Amid Striker Abundance

Walid Regragui, the coach of the Moroccan national team, is apparently having trouble finalizing his list of players for the matches against Niger and Tanzania, counting for the fifth and sixth rounds of the qualifications for the 2026 World Cup. The reason? The plethora of available center forwards.
Major headache for Walid Regragui. The Moroccan technician is having difficulty finalizing his list of players expected in March at the Mohammed VI Center in Rabat for a training camp to prepare the matches against Niger and Tanzania.
The Atlas Lions coach seems to be spoiled for choice when it comes to strikers, given the quality and performance of the Moroccan players in this position, the majority of whom play for prestigious European and Arab clubs.
Currently, the Moroccan national team has more than 14 strikers, including Youssef En-Nesyri, Ayoub El Kaabi, Soufiane Rahimi, Hamza Igamane, Mehdi Mouhoub, and Walid Cheddira. On the wings, we find Abdessamad Ezzalzouli, Sofiane Diop, Eliesse Ben Seghir, Ilias Akhomach, Osame Sahraoui, and Sofiane Boufal.
This plethora of talent does not make Regragui’s task any easier, as he must establish strict criteria in order to call up the most performing and efficient players for the upcoming matches, counting towards the qualifications for the 2025 CAN, scheduled in Morocco from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026.
