Morocco Coach Faces Dismissal Over Dispute with Star Players Ziyech and Mazraoui

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), is using all his weight for the return of Moroccan internationals Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui to the national team before the start of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He would have threatened the coach of the Atlas Lions Vahid Halilhodzic with dismissal.

"There are problems that need to be solved. We will do it so that Ziyech and Mazraoui return to the national team. They are always Moroccan players and two of the best on the team. No one can dispute how good they are," the boss of Moroccan football told the Dutch media NU. According to him, the problems are inherent to any organization. "We will solve them in the best way, so that the national team becomes the pride of all Moroccans," promised Fouzi Lekjaa.

The relationship is no longer good between the Moroccan internationals Hakim Ziyech, Noussair Mazraoui and the coach of the Moroccan national team. They recently declined the invitation of Vahid Halilhodzic while they were on the list of pre-selected players for the Lions of the Atlas match against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) as part of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers in Qatar. In the aftermath, Chelsea star had announced his international retirement. This ongoing episode places the Franco-Bosnian technician in a delicate position. He continues to face criticism from supporters.

He still has the support of the FRMF boss but the situation can change. "Vahid has our support for now, but nothing is carved in stone. We can’t say he’s untouchable or irreplaceable. When the time comes, we’ll make a decision about him," Fouzi Lekjaa said.
