Morocco Coach Defends Ounahi's Controversial Goal Celebration Against Tanzania

A controversial celebration. After scoring the second goal in Morocco’s victory over Tanzania (3-0), Azzedine Ounahi imitated a crying baby. On social media, this gesture is interpreted by some supporters as a response to Egypt and Mostafa Mohamed. The latter had reacted to the Moroccan midfielder’s criticism of the Pharaohs’ play and attitude. "Egypt, which has won seven AFCON titles, does not produce great play, but it is a team that manages. You can dominate, but they can score the 1-0 goal on a set piece, and then a player falls on the right, another on the left," the World Cup semi-finalist had said in an interview with La Provence before the start of the AFCON Côte d’Ivoire 2023. "I have not heard or seen any statement from a Moroccan player, but if he said that, our history and our figures speak for themselves. [...] We have won the title 7 times and, God willing, we will achieve it for the eighth time. If he thinks this approach brings victory, I invite him to play like us and win titles," the Egyptian international had reacted.
