Morocco Coach Condemns Post-Match Riots in Netherlands and Belgium

The riots that occurred in the Netherlands and Belgium following the match between the Atlas Lions and the Red Devils (2-0) continue to provoke reactions. Walid Regragui, coach of the Moroccan national team, condemns and calls for respect.

"It’s very difficult to see people behaving like that. We have to show respect for the country where we were born," reacted the coach of the Atlas Lions during a press conference on Wednesday before the team’s decisive group match against Canada on Thursday. Amsterdam, The Hague, Rotterdam, Brussels and other European cities experienced riots following the 2nd round World Cup match between Morocco and Belgium, which ended in a victory for the Atlas Lions (2-0). Walid Regragui does not believe that these are real Moroccans who are behind these riots. "Moroccans have more respect. In our culture, we have to respect everyone," he said.

Morocco will face Canada tomorrow, Thursday, December 1, the second team to be eliminated from the 2022 Qatar World Cup, after the host country, Qatar, in the 3rd round of Group F. A draw is enough for the Atlas Lions to validate their ticket for the round of 16. The coach of the Moroccan team calls for there to be no excesses in case of qualification. "You can be happy and celebrate, but you have to show respect for everyone. I hope everyone will enjoy tomorrow and then we will all dance and cry. Not cry with sadness, but cry because we have reached the last 16."
