Morocco: he climbs Mount Toubkal to honor the memory of his late wife

Nathan, 34, will climb Mount Toubkal in Morocco from November 28 to 29 with his close friend Will Sargison, to raise funds for Trafford Domestic Abuse Services (TDAS), a charity where his wife used to work. In just one week, his GoFundMe campaign has raised over £2,000. All donations will be donated directly to TDAS to help rehouse victims of domestic violence. This exercise he is undertaking is also a way for him to pay tribute to Emily Moss, 33, who died in November 2024 of sudden heart failure after dropping the couple’s four-year-old daughter off at a dance class.

Nathan feared for his wife’s life due to her peripartum cardiomyopathy. "When she gave birth to Isobel, we learned that she was suffering from this heart disease. It was probably the most difficult period we had experienced together, because we were both alone, then we had a newborn, and on top of that, we learned of Emily’s heart disease. Her condition was managed with medication. Her last check-up before her death was in August, and obviously everything was fine," he says. The husband was at work in Birmingham when Emily’s mother found her upstairs, reports The Manchester Evening News.

Informed of what had happened, Nathan went to the Greater Manchester Hospital. On arrival, he had a bad feeling: "I wasn’t told she was dead. I was told she had collapsed. But when I arrived at the hospital, I was taken to a side room and I knew she was dead, because if that wasn’t the case, they would have taken me straight to her side." Emily’s funeral drew a large crowd. About 300 people, many of whom attended outside in the cold. "It was a beautiful reminder of the affection she inspired, the number of people she had touched," her husband says.

Emily is described as an "incredible mom" and a "very generous person" from Burnage, Greater Manchester. In addition to fundraising, Nathan and his family also plan to surprise Isobel and her cousins with a trip to Disneyland over the anniversary weekend of Emily’s death.
