Morocco Climbs to 53rd in World Bank's "Doing Business" Ranking, Leads North Africa

Morocco gains 7 places in the 2020 "Doing Business" ranking of the World Bank, released on Thursday in Washington. It is now ranked 53rd globally. This progress was welcomed with satisfaction by the Government, which hopes to reach the top 50 of the world’s largest economies by 2021.

This 2020 "Doing Business" ranking crowns the efforts made by the authorities to make the country a strong and ambitious economy. According to MAP, Morocco is creating a surprise and maintaining its lead in North Africa, ranking third in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region.

It is then behind the United Arab Emirates (16th) and Bahrain (43rd), and ahead of Saudi Arabia (62nd), Oman (68th), Jordan (75th), Qatar (77th), Tunisia (78th), Kuwait (83rd), Egypt (114th) and Algeria (157th).

At the African level, the Report states that Morocco has maintained its third position behind Mauritius, which is ranked 13th in the world, Rwanda (38th), and ahead of Kenya (56th), South Africa (84th), Senegal (123rd) and Nigeria (131st).

The National Committee for the Business Environment (CNEA) welcomed this ranking and, in a press release, stated that "Morocco’s positive score in this new global ranking is due to the adoption of a series of important measures and reforms related to the business and activities of Moroccan companies.

The Kingdom owes its current progress to many strong reforms that have strengthened the protection of minority investors and established the principle of transparency and good governance, based on international standards in the field.

With this result, Morocco has taken a step forward to achieve the objective set by the government program to make the country one of the 50 best economies in the world in terms of improving the business climate, by 2021.
