Morocco Climbs to 53rd in Global ’Doing Business’ Rankings, Eyes Top 50 Spot

Morocco is on the verge of joining the top 50 best global economies that contribute to improving the business climate by 2021. This progress comes after its 7-point rise in the Doing Business 2020 ranking.
Ranked 53rd out of 190 countries in the ranking, the Kingdom has managed to make a jump of 75 places, thanks to the implementation of a set of 31 reforms in 10 years. This has made it possible to demonstrate its strength as a lever for attracting foreign investment in the Kingdom.
With the 2020 edition of the report, which covers the year 2019, Morocco maintains its 3rd position in Africa and ranks 3rd among the MENA region countries. These reforms have propelled Morocco up 27 places in one year in the ranking in terms of the Indicator of Protection of Minority Investors, moving from 64th to 37th place, a spectacular leap of 128 places since 2010.
According to Map, this good performance is explained by the adoption of a series of important measures and reforms related to business and business activities in Morocco, which are part of the work program of the National Committee for the Business Environment (CNEA).
Among the reforms that have contributed to this significant leap, we can cite the amendments to Laws No. 17.95 and 5.96 on companies, the "electricity connection" indicator, the contract enforcement indicator, the "Cross-Border Trade" indicator, the improvement of processing times for operations and the strengthening of transparency and the "Paying Taxes" indicator.
Buoyed by these advances, Morocco is on track to achieve the objective set by the government program to make the country one of the 50 best economies in the world in terms of improving the business climate by 2021, the same source said.
