Morocco Claims Bronze in African Women’s Volleyball Championship, First Medal Since 1987

The Moroccan women’s volleyball team won third place in the African Nations Championship (CAN-2021) after their victory, in a classification match against Nigeria, on Sunday, in the Rwandan capital. The Moroccans had been beaten in the semi-finals by Kenya.
The Moroccan volleyball team can console itself by being on the third step of the podium after beating Nigeria 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 25-18). This is good news for Morocco, which has not been on the podium at the African Women’s Nations Championship since 1987. The Moroccan team had won two silver and bronze medals in 1976 and 1987 respectively.
As for Cameroon, it secured its ticket for the final by beating Nigeria 3-0 (25-13, 35-33, 25-13). Kenya, for its part, prevailed over Morocco 3-0 (25-12, 25-21, 25-11). For their performance in this competition, Cameroon and Kenya are automatically qualified for the 2022 Women’s Volleyball World Championship to be held in Poland and the Netherlands.
