Morocco: She Evicts Her Husband and Ends Up in Prison
A court has sentenced a woman to prison and a fine for expelling her husband from their home. This ruling is based on the Family Code and the Penal Code.
The Al Hoceïma Court of First Instance found a wife guilty of forcing her spouse to leave their residence and refusing his return. Following the husband’s complaint, the public prosecutor’s office initiated proceedings. The minor offenses chamber ultimately imposed a sentence of two months in prison and a fine of 2,000 dirhams (184 euros).

On the civil side, the court ordered the woman to pay court costs. She must also pay her husband 2,000 dirhams in damages. Moroccan law considers the expulsion or refusal to allow the spouse to return to the marital home a criminal offense.
