Morocco challenges Spain for 2030 World Cup final hosting rights
The battle to host the 2030 World Cup final is intensifying between Morocco and Spain. According to Spanish press, Casablanca has now gained a serious advantage thanks to an influence campaign conducted among several blocs within the FIFA Council.
Spain is beginning to doubt its ability to host the 2030 World Cup final. While Madrid and Barcelona still hope to impose the Santiago Bernabéu or Camp Nou, the Spanish press describes a surge in Morocco’s bid around Casablanca’s future grand stadium.

According to The Objective, Rabat has already secured a decisive portion of support within the FIFA Council, where 37 members will be called upon to weigh in on the choice of host city for the final. The media mentions 20 to 22 votes favorable to Morocco, a level that would significantly complicate Spanish ambitions.
This supposed advantage would be the result of a diplomatic and sporting offensive conducted through several channels. The Spanish media notably cites the role of Morocco’s ambassador to the United States, Youssef Amrani, and that of Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and close to Gianni Infantino.
Casablanca facing Madrid and Barcelona
Morocco would first rely on support from the African bloc, via the CAF, where its influence is already strong. The Objective also mentions possible backing in Asia thanks to Qatar and Saudi Arabia, as well as support in North America favored by the Trump administration and ties with American football.
Oceania would also be closely watched, its representatives often being described as sensitive to internal FIFA balances. There remains uncertainty over certain votes, particularly within Conmebol, UEFA, and even around Mexico or Japan.
On the Spanish side, this reading fuels concern. The 2030 World Cup final seemed naturally destined for Spain in the minds of some Iberian leaders. But Morocco is betting on Casablanca, on the capacity of its future stadium and on the momentum gained by its football since the 2022 World Cup.

Nothing is yet officially decided. FIFA has not awarded the final and the figures advanced by the Spanish press still amount to a supposed balance of power. But the signal is clear: in the battle for the 2030 final, Morocco is no longer a mere co-organizer. It is now presented in Spain as the most serious competitor.
