2030 World Cup: Spain’s strong challenge to Morocco for the final
A power struggle at the top. While Morocco dreams of its final in Casablanca, Spain is hitting the table. The boss of Spanish football assures: the most prestigious match of 2030 will be played on his soil.
The suspense surrounding the venue of the 2030 World Cup final, co-hosted by Morocco, Spain and Portugal, has just taken a more political turn. While FIFA has not yet rendered its final arbitration, the president of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), Rafael Louzán, was categorical on Monday during the gala of the Madrid Sports Press Association. For the Spanish leader, there is no doubt that the most prestigious match of the competition will take place on the soil of the peninsula.
"The World Cup final will be played here," said Rafael Louzán, without specifying in which stadium or which city the event would be located. This statement comes as Morocco has several times expressed its ambition to host this final, notably through the project of the large stadium in Casablanca.
Louzán is no stranger to early announcements. While he had been right about the 2027 Champions League final at the Metropolitano Stadium, he had on the other hand been contradicted by Gianni Infantino, the FIFA president, regarding a supposed bid for the 2035 Women’s World Cup.
