Morocco’s New Car Sales Surge 16.4% Above Pre-Pandemic Levels in First Half of 2021

Some 94,025 new cars were sold in Morocco in the first half of 2021, an increase of 16.4% compared to the same period in 2019. This was reported by the president of the Association of Automobile Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).
During a press conference devoted to the presentation of the First Half 2021 Report, Adil Bennani indicated that "the Moroccan new automotive market recorded a 105% increase compared to 2020 and a 16.4% increase compared to 2019, driven by a catch-up effect and boosted by the return of interest-free credit", specifying that passenger cars (PC) recorded a 14.7% increase compared to H1-2019 to 83,145 units and light commercial vehicles LCV, +32.3% to 10,880 units.
Regarding the brands, Opel and Skoda have done wonders, reaching increases of 202% and 53% respectively in H1 2021, compared to H1 2019. On the LCV side, the DFSK brand remains in the lead with 19.6% market share and then comes Renault with 12.8%. For gasoline-powered cars, sales increased by 9.2%. Diesel powertrains are at the forefront of sales and alternative powertrains saw a 65% increase compared to 2019. For the premium segment, an increase of 26% was recorded with Audi leading the ranking, with double the level reached in 2019, said the president of AIVAM.
As for the cities, Casablanca recorded one of the lowest growth rates compared to 2019 and other cities in the kingdom. Agadir ranks third ahead of Marrakech, which was very affected by the crisis. Tangier and Kenitra recorded the highest growth rates.
