Morocco’s Car Sales Surge 13.8% in 2023, Dacia Leads Market

New car sales in Morocco have withstood the health crisis. Over the first eight months of the year, an increase of 13.81% was recorded for a total of 118,382 units sold.
Thus, Morocco recorded 104,288 new registrations for passenger cars (PC), an increase of 11.83%, while light commercial vehicles (LCV) reached 14,094 units sold, an increase of +31.02%, according to the Association of Automobile Importers in Morocco (AIVAM). For the ranking of brands, Dacia remains the market leader for PCs with 29,418 units sold, followed by Renault, which sold 14,435 units. Then come Hyundai with 8,502 cars, Peugeot, 7,066 units. The South Korean brand Kia has progressed in its sales to reach 2,775 vehicles, followed by Skoda, Ford, Nissan and Toyota which sold 3,206, 3,182, 3,174 and 3,165 cars respectively.
However, for PC sales, the German brand Volkswagen recorded a 19.82% drop with 4,704 sales. The same is true for Seat, Fiat and Citroën, which fell by 21.68%, 15.98% and 10.79% respectively. For light commercial vehicles (LCV), the Indian brand Mahindra experienced a 435.71% increase to 75 units. Dongfeng Sokon (DFSK) jumped 193.16% to 2,829 vehicles and Peugeot is at +100.35% to 565 cars. As for premium car sales, Audi is in the lead, followed by Mercedes and Porsche against a 42.23% drop at Jaguar for a total of only 119 units.
It should be noted that in August, the number of cars sold was 10,999 units, an increase of 7.51% compared to the same period in 2019. PCs climbed 2.03% to 9,329 units and LCVs 53.49% to 1,670 units.
