Morocco's New Car Sales Plummet 10.84% Amid Economic Challenges

The automotive sector continues to be strongly impacted by the economic situation related to the rise in raw material prices. The decline recorded since the beginning of the year continues for all segments combined, according to the latest figures from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM), at the end of June.

According to the latest AIVAM statistics, new car sales reached 83,831 units at the end of June, down 10.84% compared to a year earlier. In detail, the association reported the sale of 75,179 passenger cars (PC), a decrease of 9.58%, while 8,652 light commercial vehicles (LCV) were registered, a decrease of 20.4% compared to the same period in 2021.

Dacia occupies the 1st place, with a market share of 27.54% or 20,703 sales at the end of June. It is followed by Renault, which has a 14.41% market share with 10,883 during the same period. In third place, the Hyundai brand is positioned with 7,535 units sold and 10.02% market share. As for the LCV segment, Renault increased its sales by 54.73% to 2,160 units (24.97% market share), while DFSK sold 1,242 vehicles (14.36% market share) and Ford 1,075 units (12.42% market share).

This decline also affects premium cars which, at the end of June, recorded rather unsatisfactory figures, the association pointed out. In first place on the podium is Audi with 2,148 sales, occupying 2.86% of the market. The German brand BMW is in 2nd position with 1,405 vehicles and a 1.87% market share. The third place is occupied by Mercedes with 1,339 units and a market share of 1.78%.
