Morocco’s New Car Sales Plummet 11% in 2023, All Segments Affected

The drop in new car sales observed since the beginning of the year continues in Morocco. At the end of July, sales are down 11.03%, according to the latest figures from the Association of Vehicle Importers in Morocco (AIVAM).
This decline affects all segments, the AIVAM statistics indicate, specifying that new car sales reached 95,544 units at the end of July, down 11.03% compared to last year. More specifically, the association reported the sale of 85,771 passenger cars (PC), a decrease of 9.68%, while 9,773 light commercial vehicles (LCV) were registered, a decrease of 21.34% compared to the same period in 2021.
Dacia occupies 1st place, with a market share of 27.55%, or 23,634 sales at the end of July. It is followed by Renault, which has a 13.93% market share with 11,946 during the same period. In third place, the Hyundai brand is positioned with 8,575 units sold and 10% market share. As for the LCV segment, Renault dominates with 2,376 (24.31% market share), while DFSK sold 1,439 vehicles (14.72% market share) and Ford 1,224 units (12.52% market share).
For the month of July alone, AIVAM notes a 12.31% drop in overall sales compared to July 2021. In detail, the passenger car recorded a decline of -10.34% in July 2022 with 10,592 units sold compared to 11,814 units sold a year earlier. The light commercial vehicle also experienced a 27.40% drop with 1,121 units sold last July, compared to 1,544 units sold a year earlier.
