Morocco Captain Saïss Praises Team’s Progress, Honors Former Coach Ahead of World Cup

After Morocco’s victory over Chile in Barcelona, the captain of the Atlas Lions opened up about the national team’s performance, his aspirations for the World Cup, not forgetting Vahid Halilhodzic who qualified the country for the World Cup.
In an interview with the daily Le Matin, Romain Saïss acknowledges that even though Morocco delivered a very good performance against Chile, it still has a lot to do to be ready to face the other teams in Group F during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. "It’s a very good first game with a lot of positives. It’s encouraging for the future and we have to continue on the same momentum for the next game and try to get a second win, but the most important thing is the content and the attitude on the pitch," he stressed.
For the captain, with the will and a little more ambition, the Atlas Lions are capable of the best and will do wonders in Qatar. "We have a quality team, with players playing in very good clubs, whether in Europe or Africa. We have to get the chemistry going and all move towards a common goal, which is to have a good World Cup".
Regarding the appointment a few months before the World Cup of a new, much younger coach than the previous one, Romain Saïss is convinced that this will not be an obstacle, given the skills and background of the latter. For him, Walid Regragui can take up the challenge. "He is there for a specific purpose and so it is up to us to follow him and trust him to have a good World Cup".
He hopes that Walid Regragui will take care of the work done by his predecessor who worked for Morocco’s qualification for the World Cup. "I think we shouldn’t forget that it was with Coach Vahid that we qualified for this World Cup. Now a new chapter is starting, with a deadline that is coming very quickly. So we have to work even faster than usual and then Incha Allah, we will do something good," he wished.
