Morocco Cancels Historic Imilchil Marriage Festival Amid COVID-19 Surge

The local authorities of the province of Midelt have announced the cancellation of the Imilchil engagement festival and the mountain music festival that were to be held at the end of September. The decision was made due to the spread of the coronavirus.
Covid-19 is managing to disrupt the oldest traditions. This is the case with the Imilchil engagement festival and the mountain music festival. Following the discovery of outbreaks of contamination in certain cities of Morocco, the authorities have proceeded to strengthen the preventive measures within the framework of the state of health emergency. This decision also comes on the basis of the conclusions of the regular monitoring and evaluation carried out by the Monitoring Committee in the province of Midelt.
The cancellation of these two cultural events is a terrible loss of revenue for the merchants who, during the festival, come from all over the country to sell their items that are so popular with tourists.
