Morocco can win the World Cup": Arsène Wenger sees big
Arsène Wenger believes that Morocco has gone beyond the status of a simple African nation to join the world elite. The former Arsenal coach even predicts a world title for the Atlas Lions in the near future.
The former iconic manager of Arsenal has relaunched the debate on the hierarchy of world football by stating that Morocco should no longer be analyzed solely through the continental prism. According to him, the rapid evolution of infrastructure and the quality of play of the Atlas Lions now place them at the same level as the giants of the Old Continent such as Spain, France or England, rather than among the traditional African nations.
To justify this position, the French technician highlights the density of elite talents and the market value of the Moroccan squad. "Morocco cannot currently be classified with the African teams," he said, stressing that the North African selection seems paradoxically more at ease with European tactical schemes than in continental clashes, where the dynamics of play are often different.
Looking ahead to the upcoming events, the FIFA Director of Global Football Development sees Rabat as the main rival of Europe. "Morocco will be the biggest competitor of European football at the next World Cup," Wenger predicted, going so far as to envisage that the Kingdom could "win the World Cup within the next five editions," capitalizing on its historic run in Qatar in 2022.
This analysis reinforces the perception of a paradigm shift for Moroccan football, now considered an emerging superpower. For Wenger, Morocco’s ability to compete in the long run with the historical dominance of Europe and South America is no longer in doubt, marking a definitive break with its status as an outsider.
