Morocco Builds New Military Base Near Spanish Enclave, Raising Tensions

Morocco would establish a new military base on the upper part of Mount Gourougou, near Nador. This seems to be a concern on the other side of the border, in Melilla.
Morocco will deploy Israeli missiles it has acquired following the normalization of its relations with Israel in the Strait in response to the Spanish military buildup in the area. In this sense, a new military base is under construction on the upper part of Mount Gourougou, which sub-Saharan candidates for illegal immigration used to cross to reach Spain. At the top, excavators are already seen working on the site where they plan to transfer part of a barracks, which was Spanish during the protectorate, we are told. On Mount Gourougou, there is an important air and maritime control detachment "and from there, you can see all of Melilla and the coast," says an intelligence source to El Español.
In 2021, Morocco and Israel signed a military agreement for maritime control with Rafael missiles, intended for the regions of Tangier and Nador, in order to be able to dominate Ceuta, Melilla, the Strait and the Alboran Sea, the Spanish newspaper had revealed. According to the newspaper Haaretz, the Israeli aerospace industry had received $22 million that same year. In addition to Israeli drones, Rabat intends to install fifth-generation missiles in the Nador region for maritime and land control of the entire area adjacent to the Spanish autonomous cities.
