Morocco Builds Africa’s Longest Bridge: 1,725-Meter Viaduct to Transform Laâyoune

Construction work on the second viaduct of Laâyoune is accelerating. This will be the longest bridge in Africa with a length of 1,725 meters.
The Ministry of Public Works and the company NOVEC (CDG Group) are accelerating the construction work on the viaduct over the Oued Sakia El Hamra, at the level of the Laâyoune bypass. The first stages preceding the construction of the bridge, photographed by Rue20, are evidence of this. The supervisory ministry announced the signing of an agreement with the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development, under which Morocco will obtain a loan to finance the construction of the western bypass of the city of Laâyoune, which will be the longest bridge in Morocco and Africa, we learn.
These works will cost around 1.2 billion dirhams and will last nearly four years. The bridge over the Saguia el Hamra wadi will be formed by two parallel bridges, 1,725 meters long. This viaduct will have 23 spans and an 8-meter carriageway, and will be the longest bridge in Africa. It will also have two lanes in each direction, going and coming. It will allow passengers and heavy vehicles to continue their journey south of the city of Laâyoune without having to cross the city center.
