Morocco to Build $10 Million Football Academy in Laâyoune

A regional football academy will be built in Laâyoune, on an area of 10 hectares.
With a total cost of 100 million dirhams, the infrastructure will be the largest in the southern provinces. The academy will consist of 4 football pitches to international standards, a training room, a covered hall, a clinic, a referees’ training center, a 100-bed classified hotel, as well as other facilities and services, according to MAP.
The construction work will take two years, according to the president of the Laâyoune municipal council, Moulay Hamdi Ouled Errachid. The stakeholders in the project have each contributed a financial envelope: 70 million dirhams for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF), 20 million dirhams for the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region and 10 million dirhams for the municipality of Laâyoune. He also assured that the 10 ha domain is "already available".
"This Academy is a great achievement that is part of the efforts to develop and modernize sports infrastructure in the southern provinces of the kingdom," said Faouzi Lekjaa, president of the FRMF.
On Friday, February 7, the wali of the Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra region, governor of the province of Laâyoune, Abdeslam Bekrate, president of the region, Sidi Hamdi Ouled Errachid, president of the FRMF and the president of the municipality of Laâyoune, formalized the realization of this project.
