Morocco Breaks Ground on Major Desalination Plant in Nador

Morocco has just launched the construction of a seawater desalination plant in Nador. With an annual capacity of 250 million cubic meters, it will be dedicated to supplying drinking water to households and agricultural irrigation in the Oriental region.
With such capacity, this seawater desalination plant will become the second largest in the kingdom, Barlamane reports, stating that this project will increase the desalination capacity to 1.3 billion cubic meters by 2035.
In addition to the twelve stations already operational, a total of eight new stations will be built, the media reports. As part of the national strategy for energy transition, the Nador station will be powered by renewable energies in order to reduce its environmental footprint.
This project aims to support the development of the Nador West Med port, which is intended to become a strategic hub in the Mediterranean. In the long term, the Nador desalination plant will contribute to the water security of the kingdom and strengthen its capacity to adapt to climate and demographic challenges.
