Morocco Braces for Potential Omicron Wave as Europe Cases Surge

Morocco is not immune to a new wave of coronavirus contamination this December, due to its geographical proximity to Europe, hit by the new Omicron variant. Specialists are sounding the alarm.
Moroccans must redouble their vigilance on barrier gestures and the authorities are forced to anticipate at the level of hospital structures to avoid a new wave of contamination detrimental to the economy. This is what Professor Moulay Mustapha Ennaji, virologist and director of the virology laboratory at the University of Hassan II in Casablanca, argues.
Contacted by Hespress, the expert indicated that "in Morocco, we see that the figures are currently declining. We have recorded 0 deaths several times in recent times and declining contaminations. This is a good indication, but we must remain very vigilant, since the situation can turn around at any time given what is happening in Europe today, with the surge in cases and the restrictive measures that follow. And even if Morocco has taken proactive measures, we are not immune to a bad surprise in December".
To this end, the specialist has urged citizens to be vigilant and adhere to the anti-covid vaccination campaign, while stressing that the collective immunity acquired through vaccination can help the kingdom not to relapse.
In this regard, Professor Annaji estimated that "the officials of the sector must urgently open a dialogue with this category of unvaccinated citizens", in order to convince them objectively to join the campaign.
