Morocco Braces for 10% Hike in Cooking Oil Prices as Producers Unite

Cooking oil prices will continue to soar in Morocco, much to the dismay of consumers. Producers have made a decision in this direction.
Producers plan to raise cooking oil prices. The increase is around 1.5 to 2 dirhams per liter, or about a 10 dirham increase for a 5-liter can, reports Al Massae. Prices already applied last February. All brands are unanimous about this price increase and have decided to apply it to the letter. Merchants and consumers will therefore not have the possibility of boycotting certain cooking oil brands as was the case three months ago.
The producers of cooking oil had justified the previous price increase by a surge in international prices of raw materials. The cause seems to remain the same. This increase had been applied gradually and moderately, so that it only partially impacted the real increase in the raw material, as the producers had already built up a stock beforehand and purchases had been made before the price surge.
These two successive increases will certainly have an impact on household purchasing power, as well as on the income of professionals whose activity is essentially based on this food commodity, particularly in the catering professions.
